Final Reflection
What sticks out to you as the most formative experience? The experience that you'll remember years later? What was your most joyous experience? What experience are you most proud of yourself for accomplishing?
-The most formative experience for me was stepping out of my comfort zone and filming strangers about my product. The experience I will remember years later, however, is different. I believe my interviews with an entrepreneur we're the most joyous. There is nothing that I am really proud of myself for accomplishing in this class.
At the beginning of the semester, I mentioned that I wanted each of you to develop an entrepreneurial mindset. And we repeated the mantra -- I am an entrepreneur. Now, at the end, do you see yourself as an entrepreneur? Do you think you have moved closer to developing an entrepreneurial mindset?
-In some ways I do see myself as an entrepreneur but overall I believe that I have developed more of an entrepreneurial mindset.
What is the one recommendation you would make to the students who are going to journey down this path in the future? What would you recommend they do to perform best in this course? What would you recommend they do to foster that mindset?
-Keep up with your assignments! There is a lot, I mean a lot of busy work and it can bite you in the ass if you continue to miss assignments. To foster this mindset just ensure that you try to do it before the day it is due because a lot of assignments require outside sources.

Venture Concept No. 2
Opportunity
The opportunity presented is making social drinking more responsible. By creating an application for mobile devices, this on-the-go ability can prevent individuals of all ages from exceeding their limit or tolerance. The need for this opportunity is rapidly growing as our generation has taken social drinking to a whole new level. More often than not, high schoolers and college students are found binge-drinking so excessively that it is rare for them to remember their night. The changes in the environment that are creating this opportunity have a lot to do with how social communication has been altered over time. Technically speaking, the geographic market is all over our nation and the demographic is both male and females in their early teens on. Currently, there are not many ways to acknowledge and recognize ones tolerance when drinking unless they are experienced. I believe the individuals whom would be loyal towards an application like this are those who have had bad drinking experiences in the past. Because of this, this opportunity has the potential to be huge! It is hard to say how long this "window of opportunity" will be open, but it is important to get the ball rolling in order to create a safe drinking environment.
Innovation
I believe there is an unmet need of drinking responsibly. From the time teens enter high school, they are presented the opportunity to drink alcoholic beverages very frequently. In college, it is almost looked down upon if you don't. Now for me personally, I could care less whether someone chooses to drink or not, but I do care about their well-being if they have exceeded their limit and made it strikingly obvious. I believe to prevent this in the future, one could download an application called DrinkSmart. This app would be on your phone and would be able to track your BAC, the different types of alcohol and amounts consumed, as well as providing services to locate the cheapest and nearest taxi or Uber to get home safely. This innovation could infiltrate and assist each community in a number of ways but primarily by keeping each individual safer.
Venture Concept
The innovation that has been presented can assist in solving the opportunity presented in various ways. By gaining a better understanding of one's tolerance by using this application, one can remain in a safe atmosphere and stay fearless from the harmful effects of being over served. With just a few times use, the individual can educate themselves on how much and of what they are capable of drinking. I believe customers would be interested in this because there is not currently anything like it on the market. Of course, there are still competitors in this market. There are apps that are out that have similar intentions, however none to this extent.

Week 14 Reading Reflection
1. The biggest surprise for me in the reading was the concept on "Ecopreneurship".
2. There was nothing confusing to me in this reading.
3. If I were to ask the author two questions based on this reading they would be:
What is the best way to build the reputation of your company from the ground up?
What do you recommend to women who are implementing start-ups?
4. There was nothing I disagreed with.

Google Gold
1. A discussion of your general approach and strategy to search engine optimiation (SEO). What were some of the activities you did for each blog post to pursue SEO?
For each blog post I made sure to include the week in each label. Additionally, if there was a post I found particularly enthralling I would email the link to my peers to ensure they would view it.
2. What were your keywords. How did you select those keywords? Did you change or refine your keywords through the semester?
Although very broad, my keyword for my blog was simply just my name. I believe this was the easiest to use in order for others, or myself, to locate my blog through search engines.
3. How did you use social media to enhance your SEO efforts? What your your surprises or general impression of using social media to improve your blog's profile? Was social media generally receptive of your blog, or did it get ignored?
In most cases, social media works wonders in helping a blog thrive. However, I never publicized my blog on any of my social media sites because it was not something I was passionate about. If I were blogging for fun about things I thoroughly enjoyed it would be a different story.
4. What was your most "viral" post? In other words, which post obtained the most traffic? Why do you think?
I think my posts that obtained the most traffic are simply those that have more peer reviews assigned to them. Unfortunately, I do not think many of the students in this class go out of their way to view others blogs unless they need assistance understanding how to properly do an assignment.
5. Finally, did you make it to the first page of Google results for your keywords? If not, what page of results did you make it to?
I did not make it to the first page. This is strongly because there are other people who are named Emmalee May. I did, however, make it to the second page!

Very Short Interview, Pt. 2
Unfortunately, the first part of this assignment was not completed. However, I was fortunate enough to interview an entrepreneur with the name of Isabell Springer who started the company LovEd. LovEd is an up and coming company whose mission is to educate and empower individuals to make wise decisions when it comes to romantic relationships. Although she refused to let me record the interview (she had just gone to the gym), I did find fascinating information about being an entrepreneur.
Interview Questions/Answers:
How has your company flourished since you have rebranded it from former Driver's Ed for Love?
Isabell: Well to be honest, as a marriage and family therapist I was always encouraged to start my own company. Growing up, your parents teach you things like how to read and write and how to drive a car, but they never teach you how to make smart decisions when it comes to relationships. Because of this lack of education I started Driver's Ed for Love, which was recently rebranded to LovEd. The reason for changing this is to gain the exposure necessary to thrive and the previous name happened to throw off many of my customers.
Has social media had a big influence on the success of your company?
Isabell: Indeed. Social media has been the biggest factor in promoting LovEd to the public. We currently have our own website, a FaceBook page and a Twitter handle. Our large number of interns and volunteers assist us in keeping everything up to date and posting frequently. However, our company is designed for the most part on the attendance of events held each year.
At times, do you ever regret making the transition from being a therapist to starting your own company?
Isabell: Absolutely not! I strongly believe in my company and where it is currently headed. Little by little, individuals find themselves and grow significantly by attending our events. Sometimes I like to think of LovEd more like a movement than a start-up company.
Although I did not complete the initial assignment, I felt very comfortable speaking to this particular entrepreneur. She was excited and very approachable and I believe a lot of my comfort has come from the many exercises we have done for this class.

My Exit Strategy
I fully intend on continuing research on the idea of my application because I strongly believe it can impact the future of drinking responsibly. I have chosen this exit strategy because of my strong belief of this and what I witness as a college student on a day to day basis. Personally, my strategy and idea has given me the strength to recognize when I am over serving myself. I identified this opportunity because it has the ability to save many many lives. I hope to continue with this for as long as I can, and if it ultimately does not work with my schedule I hope to pass it on to someone who can make it successful. This has primarily influenced my communication and networking with others.

Amazon Whisperer
Describe the revenue drivers you currently include in your business concept for this class. Revenue drivers are the different ways you make money.
There are few ways to make revenue from an app that is free to the public. However, within the app upgrades and in app advertising are key. Additionally, obtaining sponsorships is another way to profit.
Describe what kind of product offering you believe should be next. What's the next thing your customers want?
I believe this particular product would be considered "one and done". This is because I feel everything that will be contained in the app to make users drink responsibly cannot possibly be expanded or continued until new technology becomes available.
Describe how this "next" thing will enhance your existing product/service offering. Does it improve the user experience, does it increase customer switching costs, does it foster customer loyalty, etc.
Instead of focusing on the next thing, I feel it is extremely important to put all efforts and ideas into successfully launching the first. If successful, I am sure users will convey future ideas and glitches that can be improved upon or fixed.

My Unfair Advantage
My top 10 resources:
1. Valuable interpersonal skills
2. Availability to the public
3. Perseverance through challenging obstacles
4. Personal connections with a domain expert
5. Research through questionaries and surveys
6. Unlike any other thing I have seen that promotes drinking responsibly
7. Customer care
8. Professional networking
9. Background with coding
10. Easy access-on the go!
VRIN Analysis:
I believe the most significant part of my product is that it is not currently offered by anyone else. It stands out among the rest because of the highly advanced technology that is needed to properly make it effective. Although I believe #6 is my top resource, the remaining resources that my product possesses does make it valuable and inimitable.

Growing Your Social Capital
Domain Expert: David Flores
For this I decided to interview a family friend who is involved with tech and start up companies. Over the past several years, he has been a part of many teams who created and coded new applications. When I told him about my idea for the DrinkSmart app, he seemed to be extremely impressed. However, he did insinuate I would have trouble with developing some of the features that make it significant. He insisted more research would need to be done in order to get the ball rolling on an application like this.
Market Expert: Shane Fitzpatrick
I was in luck by having a few dear friends work at 101 Cantina in mid-town. I interviewed one of the managers who targets the same individuals as myself. Numerous questions we're asked regarding the media needed to target these individuals. He suggested creating a free survey by walking around the bars on a busy night and informing individuals that this app is potentially life saving in dangerous situations.
Supplier: N/A
I was unable to interview anything regarding a supplier. This is due to my product being an application with technology that has not yet been invented and/or is currently being worked on.
Reflection:
This experience differed from previous ones because I actually was communicating and networking with real professionals. It was insightful to interview individuals who had at one point been in my shoes.

Week 10 Reading Reflection
1. There was nothing that particularly stood out as surprising, however, I did learn quite a bit about the financial side of things in start up companies and businesses. I feel as if it was the most essential reading we have had thus far.
2. Similar to in the past, there was nothing confusing about this reading.
3. What is the biggest financial setback most companies face?
Do most companies have a personal financial adviser?
4. There was nothing I disagreed with in this chapter.

Elevator Pitch No. 3
DrinkSmart
Based off the feedback from my first two elevator pitches, I only made a couple of changes. The first change was me standing up instead of sitting. The second change was including that my hope for this up and coming app is that it would be free to the public. My video appears to be more professional, however I was unable to locate a friend at the time of recording to get away from my web cam. In the future this is the one thing I would change.

Week 9 Reading Reflection
1. The most surprising thing I got from this reading was related to consumers. It is fascinating that one is able to predict purchases based on particular characteristics.
2. Every week I read the assigned reading thoroughly to gain a better understanding. Because of this, I rarely find it confusing.
3. What is the most efficient and effective way to do marketing?
How have marketers adjusted with the social media phenomenon?
4.There was nothing that stood out to me as wrong by the author. For the most part, everything was very easy to understand if read thoroughly.

My Secret Sauce
1. I have drive for things that I am passionate about
2. I have a creative element that assists me in thinking outside the box
3. I'm excellent when interacting in a social atmosphere
4. I excel in coming up with clever ideas and going the extra mile to accomplish them or make them a reality
5. I am a problem solver and am great at consoling my peers in times of need

I respect his opinion and agree with in entirely. I feel for the majority of the time I am very open minded about every situation I am presented.
Likewise to this opinion I do strive for the things I am passionate about. This is why I listed it first on the human capital I possess.
This one actually made me smile. I definitely agree when she says I stay true to myself. I know when I do something wrong, and immediately learn from it.
Overall, I agree with what everyone said. The things I found that I possess they did as well. Although this human capital does not necessarily make me different from others, it still makes me stand out among my peers. It is relieving that the qualities I have do not go unnoticed.

Idea Napkin No. 2
1. Born and raised in Gainesville, FL, I have always been surrounded by numerous start up companies. My mother is the executive director of GAIN: Gainesville Area Innovation Network and I have been recruited on a number of occasions to volunteer and work at many of the events held. Being a college student, I am continuously surrounded by partying--which always contains endless amounts of alcohol. I have witnessed first hand on a number of occasions where my peers have exceeded their limit and turned into someone they would never recognize. This too, has happened to me on a few occasions as well. My aspirations for this concept is to first find a feasible way with technology in order to successfully be able to pull this off. If this is something that is capable with modern technology, this app has the potential of aiding a lot of individuals.
2. What this offers to our target market is the opportunity to drink responsibly while still having fun. This app would be on your phone and would be able to track your BAC, the different types of alcohol and amounts consumed, as well as providing services to locate the cheapest and nearest taxi or Uber to get home safely. This would ensure, educate and lessen future incidents related to heavily drinking.
3. The demographic that this would be offered to would be individuals of all ages. I would not make it 21+ up because I am well aware of how individuals from the ages of 14+ behave when consuming alcohol, and act much more irresponsibly. Therefore, I would be targeting 'social drinkers' and these people all have in common the same thing--the desire to consume alcohol in a social setting.
4. I believe these individuals that we target care because more often than not they have most likely found themselves or one of their friends in a position where they have consumed too much alcohol. In order to prevent these scenarios and making rash decisions, they would find comfort in this app with telling them when to stop drinking and making recommendations on when they should go home.
5. I have done a little research on the idea and there are few apps that have anything related to drinking at all. I do personally have an application on my phone that will prevent me from drunk calling or texting individuals I would not make the effort to speak to sober. I believe this has been excellent in preventing me from doing so, and I feel as if creating an app to help one keep track of their limit could make the whole idea of social drinking a much more pleasurable experience.
These concepts fit together because I believe they could cover a large market. If technology allows, this app has the ability to boom among my generation and those upcoming.
For the most part, the feedback I received was all the same. Individuals that commented believed it was a great idea, but too struggled with finding the means to get the technology to work. However, if capable they all said it would be an app they would be interested in using to monitor their drinking habits.

Half-way Reflection
1. To begin with, there is a lot of required attention and up keep to excel in this course. Initially I was doing very poorly with turning in my assignments on time and unfortunately missed a number of points that I could have easily gotten credit for. Over time as this course has progressed, I have developed better time management skills. Additionally, countless assignments in this course require you to step outside of your comfort zone and engage with strangers. This has assisted me in developing a personable state of mind when approaching others.
2. For the majority of this course, I often find myself questioning myself and the point of each assignment. However, after taking a broader look at things I have realized this course has actually had an impact on my life thus far. When considering giving up, I remind myself that the outcome of this course is totally up to me, as there are no quizzes or exams. I have developed a tenacious attitude and I believe this is because in order to receive the required points for each assignment one has to get up off their ass and put in a little effort. Or a lot.
3. 3 tips I would give to future ENT3003 students are the following:
-Organization is key. Do not miss multiple points because you are too lazy to do the assignment. Your grade is entirely and completely on you and there is a lot of busy work.
-Have confidence in each assignment and when interacting with others.
-If you do not already have a tenacious mindset, you will definitely develop one. However, it helps to think of each exercise as a learning experience. Make the best out of it (because you have to do it anyway)!
Week 8 Reading Reflection
1. There are a number of things in this chapter that surprised me. For one, I was fascinated by the significance of debt in the beginning of start up companies. Additionally, I feel as if I learned a lot more about venture capitalists than I originally had known but am still intrigued to learn more.
2. I was not really confused by anything in the chapter. The author was successful in discussing the material in a clear manner.
3. How do venture capitalists decide if a company is proper/fulfills the requirements to invest in?
What more is there to being a venture capitalist?
4. There was nothing I disagreed with the author about. In fact, I learned a lot of valuable material from this chapter.

Elevator Pitch No. 2

Based off of the feedback from my first Elevator pitch, the only change that I was recommended was to stand up. Of course, I took this advice and feel as if my video appears much more professional than the previous.

Interviewing Customers No. 3
Because I broke my phone this past week and was only able to interview people based on questions, I had a very different experience. I actually found that those who I interviewed we're more eager to answer my questions when I was not recording them. I did, however, still include the notecard that gave them an idea of my business idea.
The notecard said the following:
In our generation, individuals begin consuming alcoholic beverages around the time they start high school. The unmet opportunity is the promotion of responsible drinking among all ages. Because the drinking age fails at preventing underage drinking, a possible solution is to develop an app that promotes drinking responsibly at any age. This would allow users to check their BAC, track the types and amounts of drinks they have consumed and locate taxi or Uber services in the local area to get drinkers home safely. The app would be called DrinkSmart and the significant take away is to have a good time, but do so responsibly.

In what ways do you drink responsibly?
Never drink and drive. Never take consecutive shots.
When you are drinking do you stop yourself once you start to feel drunk?
Yes, I love being tipsy but I know when I start to feel that way I should slow down.
Would you stop if you knew you were getting past your limit based on data from the app?
Absolutely! I think that is a great idea
Week 6 Reading Reflection
What was the biggest surprise for you in the reading? In other words, what did you read that stood out the most as different from your expectations?
The biggest surprise for me in the reading was the the idea of competition among suppliers and buyers. It was interesting to view it this way, as I always only recognized the competition between industries.
Identify at least one part of the reading that was confusing to you.
There was not a part to me that significantly stood out as confusing. I believe overall the article was well written and very insightful.
If you were able to ask two questions to the author, what would you ask? Why?
Why do you think this concept is not fully recognized by entrepreneurs around the globe? In what way, besides this article, do you think you could educate the public on these forces?
Was there anything you think the author was wrong about? Where do you disagree with what she or he said? How?
I did not find anything that I thought the author was wrong about. Overall, I learned a lot of things that I never put into perspective beforehand.

Idea Napkin No. 1
2. I believe to prevent this in the future, one could download an app called DrinkSmart. This app would be on your phone and would be able to track your BAC, the different types of alcohol and amounts consumed, as well as providing services to locate the cheapest and nearest taxi or Uber to get home safely.
3. The demographic that this would be offered to would be individuals of all ages. I would not make it 21+ up because I am well aware of how individuals from the ages of 14+ behave when consuming alcohol, and act much more irresponsibly. Therefore, I would be targeting 'drinkers' and these people all have in common the same thing--the desire to consume alcohol in a social setting.
4. I would work on making this app free to the public. I think individuals care about this because of the act of 'blacking out.' More often than not, I will wake up with text messages from my peers asking things like "What the hell happened last night?" or "You will never believe where I just woke up, save me!" Blacking out is a lot more common than most people think and is incredibly incredibly dangerous. A lot of this is dependent upon how quickly one consumes alcohol (hence, why taking a number of shots in a row will get you drunk quicker). Individuals that have experienced these black outs have a lot more trouble in the future not doing the same thing, which is why I believe this app would be beneficial and prevalent.
5. I have not done enough research to see what sets me apart from others, however I do personally have an application on my phone that will prevent me from drunk calling or texting individuals I would not make the effort to speak to sober. I believe this has been excellent in preventing me from doing so, and I feel as if creating an app to help one keep track of their limit could make the whole idea of social drinking a much more pleasurable experience.
Overall, I believe the application could have a lot of potential. However, I do feel stress in the logistics of being able to measure all of these things. I believe a lot of research would be necessary to implement it, but in the long run I believe users would find use of it, especially if they are unaware of their limit. I think another addition to the app would be the option to put in ones height and weight, and based off that give an estimate of the number of drinks they could consume, as well as the types.

Week 5 Reading Reflection
What was the biggest surprise for you in the reading? In other words, what did you read that stood out the most as different from your expectations?
What most stood out to me in the reading for this week was how often start up companies fail within the first year of launching. Furthermore, the entire process of starting your own business was eye opening, as it takes a very long time and a lot of effort/passion is necessary to execute it properly.
Identify at least one part of the reading that was confusing to you.
One part that was a little confusing to me was all the legal work that it entails and goes behind operating it successfully, and legally.
If you were able to ask two questions to the author, what would you ask? Why?
I would ask how to properly time things out when starting your own company, and how you learned the best time management skills for you.
The second question I would ask is why do you think so often that these businesses fail? What do they do wrong in the process?
Was there anything you think the author was wrong about? Where do you disagree with what she or he said? How?
For the most part, I definitely agreed with what the author was saying. Growing up in a very entrepreneurial family, I have witnessed a lot of these problems first hand. I found the feasibility approach fascinating, and actually took the time to do a little more research on it online.

Interviewing Customers No. 2
Fine tune your opportunity
After my first week of interviews, I drastically changed my opportunity. Initially, it was to put in some sort of motion to reduce the drinking age in the United States back to 18. However, after a lot of research and debate, I found the unmet need is to promote drinking responsibly for all ages.
Fine tune the who
Last time, I targeted individuals from 18-20. This time however, I did not look for anybody specific. However in a college town most individuals that I did interview were from 19-23 years of age.
Tweaking my interview questions
Because I completed changed my opportunity, my questions changed drastically. Below are the new questions that I asked the interviewees:

How old are you?

Would you stop if you knew you were getting past your limit based on data from the app?
What did you learn about the opportunity?
Based on the 5 people I interviewed, I learned that this opportunity is feasible. Every individual I asked said that if they we're provided the data on an application that they we're passing or had already past their limit, they would stop consuming beverages.
What did I learn about interviewing customers?
If there is one thing I learned, it is that if people have the time for the most part they are not hesitant to answer a few questions. Three tips I would have for interviewing people include:
1. Don't be shy, people are usually willing to help you
2. Never forget to say thank you for your time and feedback, as it plays a critical role in this experiment
3. Be prepared to ask questions and be yourself

Elevator Pitch No. 1
DrinkSmart
In our generation, individuals begin consuming alcoholic
beverages around the time they start high school. The unmet opportunity is the
promotion of responsible drinking among all ages. Because the drinking age
fails at preventing underage drinking, a possible solution is to develop an app
that promotes drinking responsibly at any age. This would allow users to
check their BAC, track the types and amounts of drinks they have consumed and
locate taxi or Uber services in the local area to get drinkers home safely. The app would be called
DrinkSmart and the significant take away is to have a good time, but do so
responsibly.

Customer Interviews #1
Find an opportunity
In a college-town, students every where like to be a part of
the “party scene.” In Gainesville specifically, many of the ‘it’ bars are 21+.
Throughout history, as our parents and grandparents were growing up the
drinking age was 18. In 1984, a law was passed that increased the drinking age
to 21. I believe there is an opportunity to go back to the initial law-because
throughout the rest of the world the drinking age is still 18.
Figure out who may
have the unmet need
The individuals who would have these unmet needs are those
between the ages of 18-21.
Come up with a list
of questions
Do you think it is fair that your eligible to fight for your
country but you’re not allowed to buy a beer?
I do not. Because if you’re putting your life on the line
you should be able to to drink. If you can risk your life, then you can drink.
Simple as that.
Why do you think the
drinking age should be lowered again?
It should be lowered because if you are old enough at 18 to
die overseas, you are old and mature enough to make you own decision when it
comes to drinking alcohol.
Tell us what you
learned about the opportunity
If I learned one thing about the opportunity, it is that I
am capable of anything regardless of my age or gender.
Tell us what you
learned about interviewing customers
If there is one thing I learned about interviewing customers
it is that most individuals have the same opinion. When it comes to drinking,
many of us believe that we can accomplish this easily.
